## 2. Matrix Structure

A matrix is a rectangular array of numbers. It can be single or multiple dimensional. For our purposes, one and two dimensions are sufficient for surveying adjustments. When a matrix name is shown with numeric subscripts, the leading number denotes rows, the following columns: _{4}**[D]**_{3} matrix has 4 rows and 3 columns, it is a *4 x 3* matrix.
